WCI Communities Junior Golf Foundation scholarship deadline approaches

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2012) – WCI Communities Junior Golf Foundation is seeking college scholarship applications from outstanding high school golfers in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties for the 2012-2013 school year. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000, and the deadline to apply is March 30.

Applications are evaluated by a scholarship review panel, with awards presented at year-end high school award events.

Since 2000, the WCI Communities Junior Golf Foundation has awarded more than $200,000 in college scholarships to deserving high school seniors who exhibit skill, talent and dedication, both on and off the links. Applicants must be a current member of the WCI Communities Junior Golf Foundation, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have participated in a WCI Junior Golf event or similar tour within the last year. Additional consideration is also given to students who demonstrate school involvement, scholastic accomplishment, community service, golf achievement and financial need.

“From the inception of the Junior Golf Foundation, we wanted to encourage children to cultivate an interest in golf and to do it in a setting that encouraged competition and sportsmanship,” said Ed Weber, general manager at Raptor Bay Golf Club and a founding board member of the Foundation. “We also wanted to give back to the community by rewarding those who excelled on the golf course and in the classroom.”
